Prediction

  • Seedorf's spell at Milan started with a victory courtesy of a penalty after a balanced match at home against Verona. The new manager is of course planning to get a regular playing style in the long term, but given the importance of the Coppa Italia for Milan (as it grants European qualification), he must find quick solutions to win here.
  • Udinese have been knocked back twice after beating Internazionale in the cup, thus erasing the morale built from that victory. The cup is the only resource to improve this season for the Zebrette, but their difficult situation in the league (only three points clear of the relegation zone) suggests that Francesco Guidolin may be less interested in winning here.
  • Milan's new (and old) style seems to be all about ball possession and quick movements through the centre, and as Udinese are struggling at building the play, the visitors are likely to leave the initiative to their opponents. Milan will have to be careful not to concede on the counter-attack, but in the end the Rossoneri seem to be more desperate to go through than Udinese, and the technical difference may be too much to overcome for the guests.

Team News

  • In the league match against Verona Clarence Seedorf used a 4-2-3-1 formation and it's a system he's likely to stick with.
  • As Daniele Bonera left the pitch early last Sunday he's not fully fit and he may be replaced by Matias Silvestre.
  • Valter Birsa could start instead of Keisuke Honda on the right wing, only to make way for the Japanese player in the second half.
  • Luis Muriel is finally back available after missing seven matches between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
  • The forward will probably alternate with Antonio Di Natale up front, with the Italian striker more likely to start.
  • Allan and Gabriel Silva both missed the match against Lazio due to a suspension, so they are expected to start here.
